ok. i've been neglecting my blog for months. practically for more than half a year.. things aren't going as smoothly as it is SUPPOSE to be. but i'm still alive. yet.

i have got loads of things that i wanted to rant about for days and days. things about why life isn't fair, why my family is like this and that, and why aren't i'm born with a silver spoon in my mouth, why am i still the way i am, why aren't i skinny, why aren't im pretty, clever etc.

but life IS like this. its NEVER fair. so im just going to push them aside and concentrate on my practical for tomorrow. i MUST score an A to maintain my gpa4. although my parents don't give a fuck. they don't even care about me. so for fuck i should maintain it? damnit. MY LIFE SUCKS. fml.

On his first visit, Mas Selamat Kastari discovered the toilet cubicle window was not grilled.

On his second visit to the cubicle – situated in a renovated block in Whitley Road Detention Centre (WRDC), different from the usual one used for family visits – he found out the window could be opened, in spite of its sawn-off handle.

“Noting this critical security weakness, he then actively planned to escape,” Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng told Parliament yesterday, as he recounted Mas Selamat’s disclosure to investigators on how he escaped.

DPM Wong was responding to a question by Member of Parliament (Holland-Bukit Timah) Christopher de Souza on whether Mas Selamat had revealed how he escaped from WRDC and made his way to Malaysia.

DPM Wong said, so far, Mas Selamat has not disclosed very much more than what he has revealed to the Malaysian authorities.

“This version of his escape from the WRDC is essentially consistent with the findings of the COI (Committee of Inquiry) which have been reported and made public,” said the Minister for Home Affairs.

Mas Selamat was captured in April 2009, 13 months after his escape, and handed over to the Internal Security Department by the Malaysian Special Task Force on 24 Sep 2010.

He is currently being detained at the highest risk category, where his movements are more restricted, including being shackled when he moves around in his cell, said DPM Wong.

In planning his escape, Mas Selamat developed a routine of closing the toilet cubicle door, turning on the tap and hanging his pants over the top of the door.

On the day of his escape, Mas Selamat claimed he put on three layers of clothing (two layers of civilian clothing over his WRDC uniform), when he was brought to change into his civilian clothes in preparation for his weekly family visit, said DPM Wong.

When two Gurkha guards brought him to the toilet, Mas Selamat went through his routine before opening the unsecured window and climbing out.

He told investigators he used toilet rolls to cushion his landing.

Mas Selamat headed right and came to a slope where two fences met, said DPM Wong. He climbed the fence that had a roof next to it, threw one packet of toilet rolls onto the roof, before climbing onto it.

When he reached the edge of the roof, he again used toilet rolls to cushion his landing as he jumped off and landed on the grass outside WRDC.

Mas Selamat said he headed into the forested area where he took off one of his civilian outfits, a light green baju kurung, and threw it on the ground, to prevent guards from recognising him, said DPM Wong.

DPM Wong said, investigators are now pursuing two primary issues; questioning Mas Selamat on his escape from WRDC and investigating the case from a security or counter-terrorism angle.

This includes determining the terrorist attack plans that surfaced during the investigations by Malaysian security agencies and identifying the residual elements of the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) network with whom Mas Selamat contacted.

While Mas Selamat’s disclosures were consistent from the COI’s findings, how he escaped from Singapore to Malaysia remains unclear.

Current investigations are looking into this, said DPM Wong, noting that Mas Selamat “has not given a completely reliable account of how he evaded detection while a manhunt was launched to find him and how he made his way to Malaysia”.

He added, “investigators are not closing any option … They will keep an open mind and persist.”

Stressed DPM Wong, “I am confident that our officers will continue to persevere in what has been a difficult and challenging investigation. Underestimating Mas Selamat and the resilience of JI sympathisers and elements would be most dangerous folly.”

Atheist group denounces Christian supported Burn a Quran Day

American Atheists denounced plans by a Florida Christian group to hold a mass burning of the Qu’ran to mark the 9-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The group expressed the sentiment that books are for reading, not burning.

In what seems more like a scene out of Fahrenheit 451, the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla. has planned an “International Burn a Qu’ran Day” protest. While their permit has been denied, the Christian group threatens to proceed with the event regardless. The burning has been condemned by secular and religious groups throughout the country. Dr. Ed Buckner, President of American Atheists, said that while everyone must have the right to free expression, burning books is a universal symbol of intolerance, ignorance, and hate. As a result, he said, American Atheists is urging Atheist, Freethought, Humanist and other secular groups to encourage reading about different religions, and hosting discussion forums, debates and other exchanges of ideas leading up to and on 9/11.

“In addition to studying the Bible, the Qu’ran and other ‘holy books,’ we’re recommending a brief reading list people may want to delve into,” said Buckner. “And when you finish those, we can recommend many more. Read, don’t burn. Think, don’t swallow what anyone else is telling you.”

The suggested titles include:
